PARADE KICKS OFF SEASON

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!"

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around town.

In recent weeks crews have strung lights and set up displays near the town hall, wreaths were hung throughout the downtown core, all to prepare for the official start of the holiday season marked by Saturday's Leamington Community Christmas Parade—Light Up the Night.

The parade of lights will begin an hour earlier, with the floats and bands making their way down Erie Street beginning at 6 p.m.

Leamington Chamber of Commerce general manager Chris Chopchik said the earlier start just made sense—especially for families of young children.

"Why not?" said Chopchik. "It gives families a chance to come out and see the paradeand then get the little ones home to bed."

She said over 30 floats will participate in this year's event, representing schools, churches, businesses and service groups.

Chopchik said the Leamington District Secondary School Band, as well as the Spirit of Windsor marching band, will provide music along the route.

She said representatives of Toys for Tots will be collecting unwrapped toys, and canned goods will also be collected for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Chopchik said it should be a great family night.

"With the economy struggling right now," said Chopchik, "this gives families a chance to come out to a free event that will help get them in the spirit."

Chopchik also lauded the efforts of the parade committee.

"It's been a wonderful, hard working committee," she said.
